Wrexham Council installs solar panels

Wrexham Borough Council has borrowed £28m to install solar panels in a third of its properties. The solar panels are made by Sharp which has one of the largest solar panel factories at the outskirts of the North Wales town. This puts Wrexham near the top of the emmission reduction league in the UK with over 30,000 solar panels installed in 3,000 council houses. The UK government is aiming for 4 million homes to be powered by the sun through solar panels by the year 2020. This is part of a EU agreement for 15% of electricity to be generated by renewable sources like solar power. At the end of 2011 there were 230,000 solar panel projects in the Uk and by the end of February 2012 1,000 MW of electricity was being generated by solar panels. Solar power is on the increase in the UK and will continue to grow for the foreseable future.
